Malon Tracy Obituary (1932 - 2023) - West Gardiner, Maine

West Gardiner—Malon Albert “Al” Tracy, 90, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2023 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Long Term Care--Graybirch in Augusta, following a brief illness. He was born on April 19, 1932 in Portland, Maine, the only son and youngest child of Malon Tracy and Rose Norton Tracy. He grew up with the nickname “Sonny” in Oakland, graduating from Williams High School in 1950. Al was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict Era and Peacetime, serving in the Air Force from 1950 - 1956, and then later in the Air National Guard in Washington, D.C., Bangor and Augusta, Maine for many years. He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant, and was most proud of his time spent as a Loadmaster on C-130’s and other military aircraft. Al had a lifelong love of aircraft and flying, especially as a private pilot in his first plane, a 1967 Cessna Skyhawk, and later, in two successive Beechcraft Musketeer’s. Al married Dawn McCann in 1954, and together they had five children. A man of many talents, he worked mostly as a traveling salesman and business owner in Maine and Ohio. Upon returning to Maine, he met and married Sandra (Schenck) Mellor of West Gardiner. Al is predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Sandy; his parents; three sisters Dorothy, Charlotte and Glennis; and two grandsons, Michael “Mikey” Muzerolle and Joe Tracy. He is survived by three sons; Dan Tracy and his wife Cynthia of West Gardiner; Mark Tracy and his wife Christie, of Oakland; Michael Tracy and his wife Laura, of Oakland; one daughter, Wendy Hosea and husband Tim, of Oakland; one step-daughter Lisa Hassam and husband Tim of Port Richey, Florida; 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will hold a private burial at East Mercer Cemetery in the spring. In memory of Al, donations can be made to the Cobbossee Lake Association at P.O.
